Proposals for the Hall

We were jointly successful in securing the funding we need from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to begin the Development Phase (Sept 2023). The phase started in February 2024.  Using funding that our charity secured from the Community Ownership Fund and part funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are undertaking emergency repairs to stabilise the Hall.  We propose to renovate the existing Rock Hall building and eventually build a new extension at the rear (taking the Hall back to its original size approximately).

The reason for the extension is that the building as it stands, is very small internally and would provide very limited community and commercial uses.  The new extension will enable us to have a large commercial cafe, function room, community rooms, shop and heritage space for example.

Our Charity hopes to acquire the Hall on behalf of the community via a CAT transfer after Bolton Council agreed to this since 2022.  We need to ensure that the Hall will be commercially viable, as our Charity Banana Enterprise will be responsible for maintaining the Hall once acquired. There will be further community consultation regarding our proposals as we progress through the planning stage.
